Troy Fulmer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Logan Chansley looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Jourdanton let Will Griego and Wyatt Avery run wild. Griego scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Avery scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Avery is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Ryan Aguilar was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
Jourdanton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cole only posted an OBP of .321.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Great Hearts Northern Oaks, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over Poteet on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Griffins as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.
Nicholas Franzese spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Great Hearts Northern Oaks is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise.
At the plate, Joe Hicks was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
Jourdanton pushed their record up to 16-4-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Great Hearts Northern Oaks, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Jourdanton was able to grind out a solid victory over Great Hearts Northern Oaks when the teams last played two weeks ago, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians/Squaws since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
