Stevie-Rae Hedges was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Maci Rody was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Northwestern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Manchester had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Caston on Tuesday, sneaking past 4-3. The game was the first time the Squires have beaten the Comets on their field since May 2, 2017.
Molly Schannep spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Manchester let Hadley West and Ava Sautter run wild. West went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Sautter got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Renz, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Northwestern's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Manchester, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Manchester's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Northwestern has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Manchester, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will Northwestern keep running through batters, or will the Squires buck the trend?
