Kankakee Valley is 0-9 against the Indians since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Kankakee Valley Kougars' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Twin Lakes Indians at 7:45 p.m. on February 6th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Saturday, Kankakee Valley came up short against the Slicers and fell 72-64.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jeremiah Jones, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Webster, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 12 to 5 on the offensive boards, a fact Twin Lakes proved on Saturday. They came out on top against Knox by a score of 65-56. Given Twin Lakes' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 159th, while the Redskins are ranked 375th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Twin Lakes had a senior duo take command as Gavin Businger scored 14 points along with four steals and Jamison Ousley scored 16 points along with four steals. Ousley hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Kyle Kyser was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Kankakee Valley's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7. As for Twin Lakes, their victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Kankakee Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Twin Lakes struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Kankakee Valley came up short against the Indians in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 65-57. Thankfully for Kankakee Valley, Luke Deno (who scored 15 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
