South Point is 1-8 against Russell since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Pointers will face off against the Red Devils at 5:30 p.m. South Point is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
Thursday just wasn't the day for South Point's offense. They came up short against Symmes Valley on Thursday, falling 7-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Pointers were not able to get on the board.
South Point saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlyn Evans, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Evans' first of the season.
Meanwhile, Russell had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over Dawson-Bryant on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Karson Hale spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Russell got a massive performance out of Ava Frasure, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hadley Cook, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Russell lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2025.
The win was their first at home, bumping their record up to 4-5. As for South Point, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.
Russell's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. South Point has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Russell, though, as they've been averaging only 2.2 strikeouts. Will South Point keep running through batters, or will the Red Devils buck the trend?
Everything went South Point's way against Russell in their previous matchup last Monday, as South Point made off with a 16-3 victory. Will the Pointers repeat their success, or do the Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
