The Kellis Cougars will challenge the Browne Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kellis will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak dating back to last season alive.
Last Thursday, Kellis was fully in charge, breezing past Ironwood 40-12 at home. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 21 points or more this season.
Kellis had a senior duo take command as Ronald Coty Iii rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries and Tristan Bacon gained 115 total yards and two touchdowns. Coty Iii's longest rush was for an impressive 53 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
Kellis wouldn't let Ironwood keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Jason Estrada, Avery Rodriguez, and Rodriguez picked up one apiece. Adrian Manuel also set a new season high mark in total tackles with six.
Meanwhile, Browne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 38-15 to Sunrise Mountain. One positive for the Bruins, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Miguel Fierro, who picked up 81 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Kellis' victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Browne, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
Friday's match might be decided in the trenches. Kellis has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 199.8 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Browne, though, as they've been averaging only 25.2. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Kellis barely slipped by Browne in their previous matchup back in September of 2023, winning 44-43. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Browne's Andrew Romero, who threw for 163 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for Kellis to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
