Oxford and Woodland Regional are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Oxford Wolverines will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Woodland Regional Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Oxford is out to stop a ten-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season.
Last Thursday, Oxford was beaten by Waterbury Career Academy 86-45. Oxford has not had much luck with Waterbury Career Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Meanwhile, Woodland Regional managed to keep up with Torrington until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Woodland Regional ended up on the wrong side of a rough 78-58 walloping at the hands of Torrington. Woodland Regional can't seem to catch a break and have yet to win any of their three games.
Despite the defeat, Woodland Regional had strong showings from Dean Accetura, who scored 20 points, and John Napiello, who scored 15 points along with four steals. Accetura scored a full 34.5% of Woodland Regional's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ethan Stepputtis, who scored four points along with 14 rebounds and eight assists.
Oxford's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Woodland Regional, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 0-3.
