Albemarle is on a four-game streak of home wins, while North Stanly is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Albemarle Bulldogs will take on the North Stanly Comets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Albemarle posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They blew past Gray Stone Day 72-24 at home. Given Albemarle's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Gray Stone Day is ranked 455th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Albemarle's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Bianca Robinson, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds, and Amari Baldwin, who scored 26 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. Baldwin is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Karrington Baldwin, who scored five points.
Meanwhile, everything went North Stanly's way against Gray Stone Day last Wednesday as North Stanly made off with a 46-26 win. The win was just what North Stanly needed coming off of a 61-38 defeat in their prior match.
Shalyn Bell continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of North Stanly's points. Another player making a difference was Leah Frick, who scored three points along with three steals.
Albemarle's victory bumped their record up to 13-1. As for North Stanly, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Albemarle hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 69.8 points per game. However, it's not like North Stanly struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 54.8 points per game. The only thing between Albemarle and another offensive beatdown is North Stanly. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Albemarle didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against North Stanly in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 64-58 win. Will Albemarle repeat their success, or does North Stanly have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
