Lathrop extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 7-13. They lost 15-0 to the Central Valley Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 on Tuesday.
Lathrop saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Vaughn Sanchez, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
As for Central Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.
On Central Valley's side, Ezequiel Verduzco made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Verduzco posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Central Valley gave Noah Maldonado the start and clearly made the right call: he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits.
Back at the plate, Central Valley got a massive performance out of Mason Whitworth, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The Hawks are undefeated when Whitworth posts two or more runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Adrian Vega also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Lathrop will face off against rival Beyer at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Central Valley is set to square off against their familiar foe Ceres at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
