Parkland is 0-10 against Andress since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. After both having extra time off, the pair will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 12:00 p.m. on December 28th. Parkland is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
Parkland struggled with assists last Friday (Burges had 14 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Parkland had to suffer through a rough 83-30 loss at the hands of Burges. While losing is never fun, Parkland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1392nd, while Burges is ranked 227th).
Despite the loss, Parkland saw an underclassman step up: Rachael Silva scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Silva scored 15 or more points.
Parkland struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-3) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Meanwhile, Andress beat Ysleta 30-18 last Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Andress.
Andress got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Paula Wilson out in front who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Those three blocks set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Camila Limas, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Parkland bumped their record down to 2-11 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.3 points per game. As for Andress, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.
Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Parkland have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 22.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Andress, though, as they've been averaging only 28.4 rebounds per game. Given Parkland's sizeable advantage in that area, Andress will need to find a way to close that gap.
Parkland took a serious blow against Andress when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 52-10. Can Parkland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
