The Poplarville Hornets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 59-37 walloping at the hands of Greene County. Poplarville lost against Greene County in their previous head to head back in November of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 60-21 score last time.
Greene County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rakhiya Moody led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six steals and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Moody has scored at least 25% of Greene County's points. Another player making a difference was Zamiah Knight, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Poplarville has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. As for Greene County, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Poplarville will take on Columbia at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbia is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Greene County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pass Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Pass Christian is ranked 126th, while Greene County is ranked 118th).
