The Pittston Patriots are taking a road trip to take on the Wyoming Area Warriors at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
On Thursday, Pittston got the win against Wyoming Valley West by a conclusive 12-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Patriots.
Samantha Herbert made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Herbert was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Gabby Roman and Marina Antal did most of the damage at the plate: Roman went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Antal went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Roman has posted since back in May of 2024. Mikaila Sarf also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Pittston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Wyoming Area made easy work of Hanover Area on Thursday and carried off a 14-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Hawkeyes: they've now won eight in a row.
Alexa Gasek spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Wyoming Area let Kaia Brown and Renee Haddock run wild. Brown went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Haddock went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Marissa Giardina, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Pittston now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Wyoming Area, their record is now 7-4.
Everything went Pittston's way against Wyoming Area in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Pittston made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
