Softball Recap: Strasburg Wins Going Away Against Stonewall Jackson

Strasburg was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Stonewall Jackson on Monday. The Rams were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Generals. Considering the Rams have won six games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Mayhew made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Camille Greco and Madison Wilkins did most of the damage at the plate: Greco went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Wilkins went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most doubles Greco has posted since back in March of 2024. Kenley Arnold was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Strasburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Strasburg is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Stonewall Jackson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Strasburg will head out to take on James Wood at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Stonewall Jackson, they will venture away from home to square off against Luray at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
