Burney hasn't had much luck against Fall River recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Raiders will look to defend their home field against the Bulldogs at 2:00 p.m. Burney is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Burney came up short against Chester and fell 6-3.
Mia Perez put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Aaliyah Perez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Isabella Prindiville was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Fall River can bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. Everything went their way against Trinity as they made off with a 12-5 win. The Bulldogs not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 19, 2024 (when they won 14-4).
Kayla Oilar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Darcie Range and Audrey Zimmerman did most of the damage at the plate: Range went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Zimmerman got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kaydence Babcock, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Burney's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 9-2. As for Fall River, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-11.
Fall River's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Burney has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 13.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Fall River, though, as they've been averaging only 1.8 strikeouts. Will Burney keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?
Burney suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Fall River in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
