The Mundelein Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Stevenson Patriots at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mundelein's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Stevenson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Mundelein can't be too worried about heading out to take on Stevenson: they just beat Palatine at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Mustangs came out on top against the Pirates by a score of 8-4 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Mundelein got a great performance from Joey Kafka as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, Kafka posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.
At the plate, Mundelein let Brandon Marano and Johnny Weiss run wild. Marano went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Weiss went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Weiss has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Szalony, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Stevenson's offense. They lost 8-0 to New Trier last Saturday. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Patriots who fell 6-4 when the teams previously met back in June of 2023.
Stevenson also got a good showing from Sam Prosk, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Prosk has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
Stevenson's loss dropped their record down to 16-18. As for Mundelein, their win bumped their record up to 23-10-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mundelein has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Stevenson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Mundelein was able to grind out a solid victory over Stevenson in their previous meeting back in April, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
