Not much got past Kamora Henry, who gave up just three hits and racked up 18 Ks to keep Kirtland Central off the board. Henry has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Aztec saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ayasha Yellow, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Silver came out on top against Belen on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive 14-run third inning. The Slvr Ftg Colts put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 20-0 win. The Slvr Ftg Colts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by six runs or more this season.
Azariah Madrid made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Madrid was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Silver let Vanessa Lucero and Mia Sanchez run wild. Lucero went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles, while Sanchez went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles Lucero has posted since back in March. Isabell Villa was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Silver always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .758. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Aztec's record is now 20-5. As for Silver, their record now sits at 21-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Aztec hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Silver struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Aztec might still be hurting after the 15-8 loss they got from Silver in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
