The Beaufort Eagles will face off against the Colleton County Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Beaufort has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Beaufort is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 19 runs two weeks ago, they were much more limited against May River two weeks ago. They lost 15-1 to the Sharks. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Sharks: they've now lost nine in a row.
Adalyn Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and 13 unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Beaufort saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arianna Smith, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Colleton County had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Edisto as they made off with an 18-1 win. Considering Colleton County has won 12 matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Bre Gerard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Gerard was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Alexia Eversole was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lanasia Sanders, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Colleton County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Colleton County's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-1. As for Beaufort, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
