On Friday, Newport Central Catholic had to suffer through a rough 68-40 loss at the hands of Archbishop Hoban. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Newport Central Catholic came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 158th in Kentucky, while Archbishop Hoban is ranked 340th in Ohio).
Archbishop Hoban got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Joseph Hardman out in front who scored 12 points. John Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Newport Central Catholic and nudges their season record down to 3-7. As for Archbishop Hoban, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Newport Central Catholic is on the road again on Thursday and play against Russell at 6:30 p.m. on December 28th. One thing working in Russell's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Archbishop Hoban and Trinity will round out the year against one another at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Trinity is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
