The Arlington Catholic Cougars will head out to face off against the Bishop Stang Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Arlington Catholic sitting on five straight wins and Bishop Stang on four.
If Arlington Catholic beats Bishop Stang with ten runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Cougars didn't even let Bishop Fenwick on the board on Monday, marking the Cougars' second-straight 10-0 shutout. The Cougars' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.

Matt Toland was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Arlington Catholic is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. Toland was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, John Recinito and Coleman ONeill did most of the damage at the plate: Recinito went 2-for-3 with three runs, while ONeill got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI.
Arlington Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop Stang). They put the hurt on Cardinal Spellman with a sharp 18-4 victory on Monday. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.
Devin Lord looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Bishop Stang got a massive performance out of Brock Winslow, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Winslow a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tommy Guenette, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Arlington Catholic pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Bishop Stang, their record now sits at 11-1.
Arlington Catholic came up short against Bishop Stang when the teams last played on April 4th, falling 6-2. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
