Given Mercer Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 42nd in West Virginia, while Mountain Mission is ranked 222nd in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mercer Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kayley Trump, who scored 19 points along with three steals and three blocks. Trump is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Bailee Martin, who scored 17 points.
When it comes to explaining why Mountain Mission lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ana Chacha. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 51.1% of Mountain Mission's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Millicah Vicent was another key contributor, scoring five points along with nine rebounds and eight assists.
Even though they lost, Mountain Mission smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mercer Christian Academy only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Mercer Christian Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. As for Mountain Mission, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.
