Longview and Marshall are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2019, but not for long. The Longview Lobos will head out on the road to take on the Marshall Mavericks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Longview is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
Longview put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 71-22 victory over Pine Tree. Given Longview's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Pine Tree is ranked 769th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Marshall's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Texas on the road and fell 74-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Marshall has suffered since December 5, 2023.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Avah Flanagan, who scored 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Helton, who scored two points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Longview has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. As for Marshall, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-19 record this season.
Everything went Longview's way against Marshall when the teams last played on January 2nd as Longview made off with a 55-30 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Longview since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
