For the first time this season, West Middlesex will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will host the Wilmington Greyhounds at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. West Middlesex's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Wilmington's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
West Middlesex barely beat Cranberry Area the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. West Middlesex put the hurt on Cranberry Area with a sharp 13-6 victory on Saturday. Considering the Big Reds have won four games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Kyle Gilson and Tyler Blanton were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Gilson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Blanton pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Gilson has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Gilson scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Blanton scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Gilson a new career-high.
In other batting news, West Middlesex let Caleb Koncar and Aiden Puskar run wild. Koncar scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4, while Puskar scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. With that strong performance, Puskar is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Kameron Miles, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Wilmington didn't have quite enough to beat Laurel on Saturday and fell 4-3. The contest marked the Greyhounds' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Kayden Wygant was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run over four innings pitched. Wygant was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Danny Leonard was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Owen Bauer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Even though they lost, Wilmington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.
The win made it two in a row for West Middlesex and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Wilmington, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
West Middlesex suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Wilmington when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can West Middlesex avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
