The Dover Dragons will take on the Rondout Valley Ganders at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Dover barely beat Housatonic-Lakeview the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Dragons blew past the Mountaineers 17-4 on Thursday. The Dragons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Meanwhile, while Rondout Valley put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Poughkeepsie. The Ganders were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Pioneers. The Ganders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by 12 runs or more this season.
Ella Schoonmaker made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Schoonmaker was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Sam Reyes was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Joleigh Kozack, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Rondout Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The win made it two in a row for Dover and bumps their season record up to 2-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Rondout Valley, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
Dover might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Rondout Valley when the teams last played back in April. Will the Dragons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
