On Monday, the Neumann-Goretti Saints faced the Father Judge Crusaders in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Neumann-Goretti secured a 79-75 W over Father Judge. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Neumann-Goretti was led to victory by Torrey Brooks Jr. and Larenzo Jerkins. Brooks Jr. scored 25 points along with six assists, while Jerkins almost dropped a double-double on 32 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jerkins has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Stephon Ashley, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Neumann-Goretti's win bumped their record up to 17-2. As for Father Judge, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-6.
Neumann-Goretti's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Devon Prep at 12:00 p.m. on February 7th. Neumann-Goretti is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 78.2 points per game this season. As for Father Judge, they will head out on the road to take on Archbishop Carroll at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Father Judge knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 20 matchups -- so hopefully Archbishop Carroll likes a good challenge.
