The Middletown Middie Bears will head out on the road to take on the Minisink Valley Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Middletown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Middletown was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Valley Central on Monday. The Middie Bears blew past the Vikings 11-5.
Bethannie French made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. French was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That hit marked the first that she has got this season.
In other batting news, Middletown got a massive performance out of Keira Stroud, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Platero, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Minisink Valley sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Wallenpaupack Area on Thursday.
Emily Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Minisink Valley's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Keira Filip, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Natalie Rogers was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Middletown's record is now 3-1. As for Minisink Valley, their record now sits at 4-2.
Middletown's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's match. The Middie Bears have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Minisink Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Middletown continue to outrun the ball?
Middletown couldn't quite finish off Minisink Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Middie Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
