East Carteret dropped down to 3-5 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 44-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northside - Pinetown Panthers. The Mariners were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.
Loss or not, East Carteret got some senior leadership from Jackson Greene and Luke McIntosh. Greene picked up 219 receiving yards and three TDs, while McIntosh threw for 267 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per attempt. Greene was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 63 yards.
Special teams played a big role in the game for East Carteret, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Myles Shelton, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
As for Northside - Pinetown, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.1 points on average this season.
Sincere Columbus was his usual excellent self, rushing for 155 yards and three scores. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 106.2 rushing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Moore, who rushed for 115 yards and one TD on only 11 carries.
