Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 21 to 3 on the offensive boards, a fact the South Fork Bulldogs proved on Monday. They walked away with a 62-49 victory over Westwood. Given South Fork's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while Westwood is ranked 474th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Fork had a senior duo take command as Loghan Downie scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and Nick Chang scored 16 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Chang scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Imarion Stanberry, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jordan Crutchfield, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Crutchfield pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Marvenshy Duroseau, who scored 13 points.
South Fork pushed their record up to 5-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for Westwood, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
South Fork won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Vero Beach at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th. One thing working in Vero Beach's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups. Westwood won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Centennial at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th. Centennial is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 65.3 points per game.
