After four games on the road, Avery County is heading back home. They will take on the Mitchell Mountaineers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Avery County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Avery County put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season. They blew past Owen 77-25 on the road. Given Avery County's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while Owen is ranked 508th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Zoie Mcclarrin, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. She hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Marley Jones, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mitchell was the victim of a tough 59-39 defeat at the hands of Rosman on Friday. Mitchell has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Avery County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. As for Mitchell, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season.
Avery County strolled past Mitchell when the teams last played two weeks ago by a score of 60-45. Does Avery County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mitchell turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
