The Akron Tigers couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were beaten by Nichols 70-27 on Monday. Akron has not had much luck with Nichols recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Nichols got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brianna Barr-Buday out in front who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 15 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Julie Cruz, who dropped a triple-double on 11 points, 12 assists, and 10 steals.
Akron's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Nichols, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Akron will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Wilson at 6:00 p.m. on December 21st. As for Nichols, they will head out on the road to face off against Lewiston-Porter at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
