Baseball Recap: Munster Extends Winning Streak to Two

Munster barely beat Kankakee Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Kougars a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Mustangs have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Owen Roberts tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Zach Wright was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Luke Zelaya was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Munster and bumps their season record up to 15-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Kankakee Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-11-1.

Coming up, Munster will square off against Illiana Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Kankakee Valley, they will face off against Griffith at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.1 runs per game on average), something the Kougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
