On Friday, Mt. Vernon faced New Palestine in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Mt. Vernon Marauders came out on top against the New Palestine Dragons by a score of  71-59. The  win was nothing new for the Marauders as they're now sitting on four straight.
 Mt. Vernon was led to victory by  Luke Ertel and  Max Vise.  Ertel  almost  dropped  a double-double with 26  points and nine  rebounds, while  Vise  shot 60% from the field to rack up 17 points and eight  boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which  Ertel has scored at least a third of Mt. Vernon's points. Another player making a difference was  Elijah Parra, who  posted nine points.
 Despite the loss, New Palestine still got an impressive performance from   Julius Gizzi, who  went 11-for-23  en route to 30  points and five  boards. The  matchup was  Gizzi's 25th in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of  Moses Haynes, who  earned 11 points.
Mt. Vernon's victory was  their third straight on the road, which  pushed their record up to 16-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 70.3 points over those games. As for New Palestine, their loss  ended  a  12-game streak of wins at home  dating back to last season and  dropped them to 20-3.
 Mt. Vernon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next  contest,  a  62-58  defeat against Westfield on the 25th. As for New Palestine, they have also  already played their next game,  a  67-60  win against Warren Central on the 27th.
