The West Wilkes Blackhawks can finally bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They took down Millers Creek Christian 61-47. The victory was just what West Wilkes needed coming off of a 91-58 defeat in their prior contest.
Several Lions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cam Layaou, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Layaou is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Heath, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
West Wilkes' win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-12. As for Millers Creek Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Wilkes will challenge Surry Central at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Surry Central's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while West Wilkes has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. As for Millers Creek Christian, they will take on Community Baptist at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Community Baptist and Millers Creek Christian are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
