Basketball Recap: Southern Maryland Christian Academy's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Southern Maryland Christian Academy lost to Northeast back in December of 2021, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs secured a 61-56 W over the Northeast Eagles. While the Mustangs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Ja?Zyere Thompson, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 13 points in addition to five boards and four blocks. Thompson also set a new season-high mark in steals with three. Another player making a difference was Chase Purvis, who went 5 of 7 en route to 12 points.

The win was the fourth in a row for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, bringing their record for this year to 6-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 23.5 points. As for Northeast, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy will host The Living Water School at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in The Living Water School's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Northeast, it'll be Battle of the Birds when the Northeast Eagles challenge the Owings Mills Golden Eagles on Friday.
