Softball Recap: Wheeler Sets Scoring Season-High Against Concord

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wheeler). They were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over the Concord Minutemen on Saturday. The Bearcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by ten runs or more this season.

Cadence Piunti was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Rileyann Welch was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Nora Howell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Wheeler always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Concord only posted an OBP of .318.

Wheeler is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Concord, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.

Coming up, Wheeler will face off against North Judson-San Pierre at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bearcats are facing the Bluejays at the right time seeing as the Bluejays are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Concord, they will square off against Warsaw at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
