Desert Edge is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Friday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Youngker.
Chase Downing was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits.
At the plate, Cayvon Clemons and Zeus Durazo did some serious damage despite the final result: Clemons scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Durazo went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those runs marked the first that Clemons scored this season. Tyson Kinnear was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Verrado waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Hawks.
Eli Bebleh was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Aaron Gutierrez, who scored two runs and stole a base.
Verrado's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Desert Edge, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
