This season hasn't been kind to the West Laurens Raiders, who are still winless after their fifth game. They took a 62-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Spalding on Friday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for West Laurens in their matchups with Spalding: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the loss, West Laurens had strong showings from Jumarie Hill, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds, and Nasire Jones, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Jones scored a full 26.4% of West Laurens' points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Dorian Watkins, who scored nine points.
West Laurens bumped their record down to 0-5 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Spalding, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Laurens won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Dodge County at 5:30 p.m. on December 9th. Dodge County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully West Laurens likes a good challenge. As for Spalding, they will head out on the road to face off against Howard at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
