The Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 58-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Western. Archbishop Spalding was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Western apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.
Despite the loss, Archbishop Spalding still got an impressive performance from Whitley Watkins, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Watkins has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Smith, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Archbishop Spalding has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Western, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 14-3.
Archbishop Spalding's road trip will continue as they head out to face St. Frances Academy at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th. St. Frances Academypresents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Archbishop Spalding in Maryland (St. Frances Academy is ranked 12th, while Archbishop Spalding is ranked 64th). As for Western, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Clifton at 4:04 p.m. on Friday. Western is coming into the contest with 15 straight wins at home, so Lake Clifton is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
