West Hancock extended the longest winning streak in A District 2 this week by beating Southeast Webster-Grand, 42-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Eagles.
Prairie Valley moved up to 119 from 152 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Warriors were able to make the jump by beating Lake Mills 35-0.
Newman Catholic's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jack Fitzgerald threw for 133 yards and Spencer Schmidt had 48 yards receiving. On the ground Joe Burgmeier chipped in 254 yards. Casey Hall helped Newman Catholic's passing attack out by catching three balls for 27 yards.
Peter Lapointe made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Knights bested Bishop Garrigan. The 6-foot-1 junior grabbed 1.0 sack.
Newman Catholic's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Knights feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Fitzgerald has thrown for 421 yards and one touchdown this season, while Schmidt has six catches for 186 yards. Burgmeier leads the league in rushing with 1090 yards.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Prairie Valley takes on West Hancock. Mike Swieter's team has allowed 88 points this season, while Bob Sanger's team has given up 89.
The Eagles took down the Eagles 42-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
