Softball Game Preview: Southington Blue Knights vs. Waterford Lancers

Southington is a perfect 3-0 against Waterford since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Blue Knights will head out on the road to square off against the Lancers at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Southington will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Middletown on Saturday. The Blue Knights put the hurt on the Blue Dragons with a sharp 14-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Knights in their matchups with the Blue Dragons: they've now won six in a row.

Southington got a massive performance out of Aubrey Perugini, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was Perugini's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Bafundo, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Waterford had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Thursday. They never let the Vikings get on the board and left with a 15-0 win.

Waterford pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Southington, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.

Southington was able to grind out a solid win over Waterford in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 12-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
