Norwell is 7-2 against Jay County since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Norwell Knights will look to defend their home court against the Jay County Patriots at 7:45 p.m. Norwell will be strutting in after a victory while Jay County will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, Norwell narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Huntington North 48-46. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Norwell.
Jay County lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Saturday was a bit more commanding. They were outmatched by Yorktown on the road and fell 69-31. While losing is never fun, Jay County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 256th, while Yorktown is ranked 78th).
Despite the defeat, Jay County had strong showings from Eli Dirksen, who scored four points, and Gradin Swoveland, who scored ten points.
Jay County struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Yorktown racked up 16 assists.
Norwell is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Jay County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-11.
Norwell won a game that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in February of 2023, slipping by Jay County 36-35. Will Norwell repeat their success, or does Jay County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
