Mickey Marolt made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ryan Nitti was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Paul Anzalone, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
Aspen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.
Steamboat Springs hit Eagle Valley with a five-run sixth inning last Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Devils took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sailors. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 16, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Eli Adams made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Jackson Woodworth also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Aspen's record is now 6-9. As for Eagle Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
Aspen suffered a grim 16-9 defeat to Eagle Valley in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Skiers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
