Chris Barnett was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Bloomington North's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-2 (and 7-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Will Breedlove, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, while Terre Haute North Vigo put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Martinsville. The Patriots blew past the Artesians 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Brady Stepp looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Briar Goda and Austin Black did most of the damage at the plate: Goda went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Black went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Black a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Parker Higham, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Terre Haute North Vigo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Bloomington North's record is now 15-10. As for Terre Haute North Vigo, their record now sits at 17-8.
Bloomington North came up short against Terre Haute North Vigo in their previous meeting back in April, falling 7-4. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
