Baseball Recap: Newton Takes a Loss

Newton lost against Diboll back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Newton Eagles lost 17-1 to the Diboll Lumberjacks. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Newton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Callan Hough, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. That's the most hits Hough has posted since back in February. Bebo Smith also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Newton's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Diboll, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton will venture away from home to take on Pollok Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Newton has given up an average of 9.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Diboll, they will head out to challenge Huntington at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Huntington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
