The Burlingame Panthers lost against the Menlo-Atherton Bears back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Burlingame took a 44-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Menlo-Atherton. While losing is never fun, Burlingame can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 466th, while Menlo-Atherton is ranked 43rd).
Burlingame's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zack Kirk, who scored nine points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alain Kazarian, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Burlingame and nudges their season record down to 8-7. As for Menlo-Atherton, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1.
Burlingame's road trip will continue as they head out to face Jefferson at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Jefferson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Burlingame likes a good challenge. Menlo-Atherton won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Granada at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. Granada will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
