Make it 12 blowout wins for the Lake View Wild Gators this season. They blew past Latta 71-40 at home. Winning may never get old, but Lake View sure is getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Jaleya Ford was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 31 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Lake View's points. Another player making a difference was Zy'Kiara Waters, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
When it comes to explaining why Latta lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Shawniza Bethea. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points along with two blocks. That was a full 37.5% of Latta's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Layla Hyatt was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Lake View's victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Latta, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake View will face off against Green Sea Floyds at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Green Sea Floyds will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 225th, while Lake View is ranked 69th). As for Latta, they will head out on the road to challenge Hannah-Pamplico at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
