Hartshorne had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Allen Mustangs 47-8 on the road on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Miners also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hartshorne to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carter Johnson, who threw for 149 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 passes, and also rushed for 39 yards and two touchdowns. Gus Miller was Johnson's top target, picking up 106 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Hartshorne's defense and their 13 sacks. Benny Mattioda led the group effort, picking up four of those sacks all by himself. Andyn Angeli also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up two sacks and making two total tackles.
Hartshorne will welcome Morris at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Allen, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Stratford at 7:30 p.m. on September 13th.
