Baseball Recap: St. Edward Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

St. Edward extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 15-11 in the process. They never let the Riverside Beavers get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-6 back in April.

As for Riverside, with the defeat, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-9. They were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but St. Edward's pitchers proved too tough.

For Riverside's part, they got a good showing from Josh Rauer, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rauer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Riverside saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Michalski, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.

St. Edward and Riverside are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge Mentor at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Riverside, they will welcome Jackson at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. The Beavers are on a four-game streak of home wins, the Polar Bears an eight-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
