Softball Recap: Caston Takes a Loss

Caston had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-7 to make it four. They fell 10-6 to the North Judson-San Pierre Bluejays. Comets fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Bluejays since on Tuesday.

Hadlie Coffing was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. Coffing was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Avery Baldwin and Myli Rude did some serious damage despite the final result: Baldwin got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Rude went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That run was Baldwin's first of the season. Natalie Warner was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

As for North Judson-San Pierre, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.

On North Judson-San Pierre's side, Molly Madsen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on 12 hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Olivia Timm was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs. Another player making a difference was Virginia Chambers, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Caston will host Northfield at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for North Judson-San Pierre, they will be playing at home against Frontier at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
