Basketball Game Preview: Cedaredge Bruins vs. Olathe Pirates

The Cedaredge Bruins will head out on the road to square off against the Olathe Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cedaredge has 13 straight victories, Olathe has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Cedaredge is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Aspen: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Cedaredge blew Aspen out of the water with a 55-9 final score. The Bruins have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 22 points or more this season.

Carley Malinowski was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammy Denison, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 13 points and five assists.

Cedaredge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Olathe played a tough game on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Grand Valley, falling 42-18.

Cedaredge pushed their record up to 13-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 19.6 points per game. As for Olathe, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.

Everything came up roses for Cedaredge against Olathe in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as the squad secured a 40-12 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cedaredge since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
