There's no place like home for The Oglethorpe County Patriots, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 35-28 victory over Jasper County on Friday. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Oglethorpe County's ten-point performance the contest before.
Oglethorpe County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jake Turner led the charge by rushing for 215 yards and a touchdown. Turner hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Wallace, who threw for 217 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt.
Jasper County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Kaidon Whidby, who rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Another player making a difference was Demonte Greene, who picked up 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Oglethorpe County's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Jasper County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oglethorpe County will challenge Elbert County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Elbert County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Oglethorpe County in Georgia (Elbert County is ranked 154th, while Oglethorpe County is ranked 337th). As for Jasper County, they will head out on the road to face off against Commerce at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Commerce is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.
