The Chatham Cavaliers''s and the Dan River Wildcats''s match on Friday was close at halftime, but the Chatham Cavaliers turned on the heat in the second half with 28 points. Chatham was the clear victor by a 42-18 margin over Dan River. The victory was just what Chatham needed coming off of a 51-26 defeat in their prior contest.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was D.j. Gregory, who rushed for 175 yards while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Stanford Lipscomb was another key contributor, throwing for 86 yards and two touchdowns.
Chatham's win was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 6-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.4 points per game. As for Dan River, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Chatham will take on Gretna at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gretna presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Chatham in Virginia (Gretna is ranked 106th, while Chatham is ranked 234th). As for Dan River, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against William Campbell at 7:00 p.m.
